Family memories. By Daniela Marín Morales

FAMILY MEMORIES

When I was a child, all my extended family used to travel in December on vacation to any beach.
We would travel in several cars. These trips were pretty long and one person always had to drive for long hours. However, all of us enjoyed it.
After the trip, we arrived to a beautiful big house with many bedrooms and an enormous garden to play and make different activities in family.
During the time we were there, we spent a lot of time together snorkeling, swimming in the sea, taking the sun, playing different games or only talking in family.
My cousins and I loved to go out and walk on the sand and play together with a ball. One of the things that we enjoyed was making sand castles and then choosing the best castle with the help of each family member. The winner could eat one biggest piece of a delicious cake, freshly baked by our grandma. It was a great reward.
At nights after dinner, my grandparents, uncles and aunts used to sit close to the beach around the fire to talk by many hours. Meanwhile, all of us would ran and played happily chasing crabs of different colors and writing our names on the sand.
Also, my grandparents used to buy a lot of toys to give to each cousin; and many gifts for each adult. These presents used to be delivered at Christmas midnight. This day, all the family gathered around the living room to open all gifts and spend all night together. The rest our vacation, my cousins and I only played with the new gifts.

When December finished and each family member returned to their house, everything was back to reality and it was very boring. All of us used to wait for the following year to be together again, and enjoy the best vacations of the world.

My memories by Juan Mnauel Vera

A Little bit of my childhood

When I think in my childhood, many memories come to my mind, primary school, my old Friends, my parents, and some other things, But I belive that it’s better begin, with a short description about my childhood and who is Juan Manuel.
I was born in Bello Antioquia, I grew in a Little family (my father and my mother); we lived my two first years of my life in my grandfather’s house; but after that we muved to live in bello, where we lived for nine years; here i have many moments to remeber all my life.
When I remember my childhood, my first memory could be the moments when I played with my old friends from my neighborhood and school. It’s a good way to remember and not to forguet this moments of my life; for example when I was between 6 and 12 years, I used to have a big group of friends, and it’s a good memory because all us seemed brothers, our mothers were Friends. For this reason we could spend a lot of time together.
I used to go to sleep at my best friend’s house. His mother seemed like my mother, and my mother seemed like his mother, and all weekends, we’d go out with his mom and brothers, to eat ice cream or hamburgers; it was funy because we used to share long time together, and often we Friends gathered to play football, and video games in any houses. This was a great time of my life.
I remember one time, when of our mothers it was a “confama de rionegro” to spend the day in the pool, and camilo (A good friend of my childhood) when he Wanted to ride the slide, he started to up, but in a short moment he fell off the slide, and he had an open-cut in his head; he fall from the slide and broke his head. We had to carry  him tol the hospital where they put her five stitches in his head, and couldn’t to go again to another pool again if he didn’t come go with his mother, It’s funny everytime I remeber this.

My memories by Luis Felipe Sarmiento Rivera

When i was a child i was a happy kid. I used to be play used to fight a lot with my sister but w`d play a lot too. We would play Monopoly, cops and robbers, and a game in which someone have to hide and the other one have to find him.We would to eat a lot in Mondongo`s with our parents. It was our favorite place to eat.
In those days, my sister and I used to get common friends and we would hang out together. I remember that we used to live in “El Cortijo” and our house has polarized windows.
We use to travel a lot with our parentes and I would be punished in all our trips because I was very annoying. We used to go to Cali on vacation. My mother`s family live there.
Nowadays, I don’t go to Cali. Im not sure why not but I ought to go to visit to my moms family. In Cali, my parents didn’t  let me tease my sister, so I was punish in our Cali trips tooo. In those days we used to eat a lot of pig chop as our Cali favorite food.
In my childhood I had a wonderful friend. His name Juan David. We used to play soccer the whole day.
I was a good kid but I had not good grades, so my parents get me to punish a lot. My parents make me come home before 10:00 When I had 12 years old. And when I was 15 years old I used to come home before 12:00.
When I was young my parents didn’t get me to drive the car so I have to ask them to drive me everywhere

My memories by Daniela Tobón Cataño

My memories by Daniela Tobón

All my family come from Barbosa. My parents met them in a bar located in Barbosa’s main park. Everything was instant, it was like “Love at first sight”.  They used to study together in a boarding school so there they began a relationship. Time after that my mom was pregnant.

I was born in Bello but I used to live with my grandparents in their farm located in barbosa. There were many animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, dogs and a cat. I remember that I used to stay with my grandfather when he milked the cows every morning. Sometimes I used to caught coffe beans with my uncle Julio.

My mom moved to Bello looking for a work and my dad moved to a distant city for military service. so my parents separated when I was a child. Still my mom got a job I was still living in Barbosa. But when I was like 3 years old my mom took me to Bello with my aunt. Like 4 years after my little brother was born. My mom sometimes had me look after my brother. I think I’d have a good relationship with my brother, I mean, we never fight. when we were children we used to play all the time together.
On vacations my family used to go camping. Our favorite place was Porce, we had a special place there, it was near to a big river. There we used to swim and fish in a little canoe. At night we would tell horror stories. One of my favorites stories was about a witch who used to visite my uncle at night. the worst part of the history was when my uncle showed us the scars that the witch let him in his body, it looked like a  scratch.

When I was a Kid by Cristina Salas González

When I was a kid, I used to spend a lot of time with my brother and my cousins. As I am the only girl of tree children, and the youngest too, I’ve always been used to spend time with boys. That’s why nowadays, I feel more comfortable with guys than girls. We would go everywhere together because backthen kids used to get scared of monsters and ghosts.

My happiest and kind of sad memory is me and my brother at the back of my dad’s car waiting for him to give us some coins to buy candy and stuff. He would give each of us a $500 coin and a $200 coin to buy anything we wanted, but my brother, as he was the older one, used to steal my $500 coin and leave me with just one $200 coin to buy less candy than him. But once in a while he would let me keep my $500 coin and I would buy much more candy. It was really good. My cousins, my brother, and I would meet all of our neighborhood friends and play until it was late, or our parents told us to go inside, because we didn’t want to go home after eating all the candy.

We used to love playing “policias y ladrones”, “yeimi”, “boy” and “bote taro”, and we used to play all those games in our grandmother’s neighborhood. That would have taken a lot of the time from my childhood, that’s why my brother, my cousins and I are practically like siblings, due the time and experiences we used to spend when we were kids.

During those days the only worries we had were what to play and which team we would divide so we could win against our friends because we always had to be the winners. Different than now, when kids just get concerned about which cellphone is the best, what to post on Facebook or Instagram, the newest videogames, and TV shows. Now they forget how to play outside, get dirty and enjoy a park, a sunset, flowers and life.

my chilhood by Jorge Luis Pacheco

My childhood
By Jorge Luis Pacheco
I`ll never forget how my childhood was too unique and gratifying, I traveled, played, learned many things more.
We went with my parents and my brother to many places and cities like Santa Marta, Cartagena, Cali, Monteria and many more places, but almost all the time we used to travel by car to many places, but we usually went to the beach and made me feel so happy because it so special and I was able to ate all the fish as I could ate, but my parents didn’t let me go alone to the beach because they always said it was too dangerous for a kid to be alone.
I remember how often we used to go to visit my father’s mother almost every weekend because I was born in that house and she also lived close to my home. I in my grandmother house I played very often games like la llevas or hide and seek, marbles, and other games for kids. I can remember how we used to play with my cousins and brother, but when we had problems it always was my fault because my uncles blamed me because I was the older one.

I remember how delicious was my grandmother meals always were the best that’s  because were too sweet and made with love and patience; For example in holy week, she always made local candies like plantain, potato, yucca and many more. In the birthdays she always cooked special cakes, for Christmas she made tamales and they were delicious, but I remember that in highschool my favorite food was butifarras, mango with lemon, salt and black pepper, patacon with fried cheese, some snacks like boliquesos and many more. I practiced sports like volleyball soccer and other sports in the sports class.

MY MEMORIES BY ANGELA POSADA

When I was a child, I enjoyed little things. My favorite food was pasta with tomato sauce, potatoes, sausage and egg, but my mom always fought with me. Because, I didn´t eat any different things, and my father, however, was not that strict about food and allowed me to make my own choice. He only looked my mom.
My father and I used to watch Baywatch together every Sunday. And every evening, we used to watch the news or some other program on Channel One or Channel A.

I never had siblings. I lived most of my childhood in Monteria, very far from my family.  I remember that, I used to travel to Medellin only on Christmas. I would stay there for a month, but I hardly ever stayed with my parents.
I lived all my life with my grandmother; she was the most beautiful grandmother in the world.  She used to comb my hair before school, she made it curly and I enjoyed every time that I spend with her.
As I have always loved pets, my grandmother chose a name for my first dog. His name was throsky.  I thought that the dog´s name was funny, but I don´t know why she chose this name.

I used to play to cook with my mom or with my grandma every day, but now I don´t like to cook. I remember that my mom used to buy me a new Barbie almost every month, and that my uncle gave me some Barbie, a small Barbie house or some other accessories for my Barbie; He did this every year for Christmas when he visited my family. I remember that I had a big collection of Barbie and they were my favorite toys.

My father and I have always been very close. I love playing with him and my mother always argued with us because, I´m a lady and I ought not to play as a child, but we never paid attention to what she said and that was worse. And in some cases I ended up crying and my mom saying me, “I told you.” My father smile and my mother hugged me; after that my father felt guilty and he gave me something and said me “forgive me my love.” And that was the end; we were starting to play again.  All those things happen once a week, more or less.

I really enjoyed my childhood God gave me excellent parents, I also had the wonderful opportunity to live with my grandmother and to feel all her love.

MY CHILDHOOD BY MARIA DEL PILAR ARENAS

I have the best memories about my childhood, because I really had fun. When I was a child I used to play Barbies, hide and seek, tag, soccer, videogames, dolls, ride bicycle and watch TV. My favorite programs were: Sailor Moon, Saint Seya, Dragon Ball, The Simpsons, The Pink Panther, The Smurfs, Tom & Jerry, The Powerpuff girls and all the Disney movies.

I’d eat ice cream every Saturday with my sister. We loved eat aloha, actually I still love it.

I was in swimming class and I used to love it, I had to wake up at 7:00am every Saturday and it didn’t matter to me I enjoyed the class.

I used to fight with my sister all the time. We fought for the toys, the TV, the sit in the car, for everything. But nevertheless we played and had fun together. Today we have the best relationship ever.

I had a best friend, her name is Vanessa, we liked to play videogames together and have fun, but when we were older, we toke different directions. Today we still be friends but not the best friends.

I have too many cousins, and we’d play in my grandma’s house together. We used to do it in holidays everybody was looking forward to playing together again.

We’d go to the beach every year. My sister and I would play with the sand. We made castles and we were burying in the sand. We’d play with the waves, jumping and swimming.

My family used to spend much time with my aunt, her husband and my cousins. We’d go for picnic. My mom would make the lunch and the snacks like sandwiches and cookies. We enjoyed the nature, played games and waited for de sunset.

When I was 7 mi sister had chicken pox and my mother made me stay all day with her, she wanted to infect me because the chicken pox is more dangerous when you are older, but I never infected me. That was so bored because I wanted to go out with my friends and I couldn’t.

I have the happiest childhood and I really wish that when I have children they have the same experiences.

Family Memories - By: Victor Manuel Velez Bedoya

Good evening. My name is Victor Velez. I am marine biologist and I was born in Medellin.

When I was a child, I was playful, messy and crazy. I have two sisters and three brothers, but I was good friend with my two younger brothers. They were my fellow adventures and follies. These were unforgettable moments. We were unbearable, for example, we couldn´t go together to the grandparent´s house, because always we were doing damages. We used to play hide and seek and tag with our neighbors until high hours at night. My family is beautiful.

I remember, that my mother prepared delicious dishes, one of the special dishes that my mother made was “indios”, this dish is made with: cabbage, chorizo, potatoes and herbs, and eaten with rice.

My family is very religious, for example, my mother wanted us to go to church every Sundays, but I don´t like go to church and I don´t like pray.

I prefer make others activities like: go to another city on vacation with my family, for example, we went to the beach several times. It's a beautiful place. There we like to know different species of the sea: fishes, crabs, sharks, dolphins and turtles. Also, we snorkeled in the coral reef.

I remember, when I was a child, I played with my brother. We thought that we were cowboys, from time to time my brother was a cowboy in other time he was the horse, the same with me. One day, while my brother was the horse and I was the cowboy, I had a pencil like a cigarette and he neighed, then with his head he stuck the pencil on my palate. We were afraid, but it was nothing serious. Since that, my mother doesn’t allow children to play with dangerous object.

The celebrations were always in the grandmother´s house. The celebrations were very fun and almost always we used new clothes and we ate a lot.

My grandparents are from Yaly, which is a town near Yolombo Antioquia. My grandparents had twenty children, four died when they were young, the others sixteen, aunts and uncles, lived in different cities of the country, but when we had family meeting at grandparents home, there were unforgettable parties with a lot of foods, drinks and activities.

My grandmother was a good cooker; she prepared delicious meals of all kinds like: desserts, chicken, meat, rice, soups and delicious arepas that we stole and we ate with butter.

That is all. Thanks.

Memories By Mauricio Pino

When i was a child, my parents used to carry us to the river. The preparation for this ride included food, child clothes and other things. Our mom used to said all week before the ride: if you were a bad child and doesn’t wash the dishes, you wont go to trip with your brother, it made  me feel so sad, later I was  thinking I will never lose a trip with mom, dad and brother so i´w rather wash the dishes.

At the day, all of us were working together. I was in charge of packing the river´s accessories (lifejacket, etc), indeed it saved to my little brother more that once, jajajajaja. Mom used to cook the lunch for all of us, and always used to said to my dad: you better prerape child´s clothes but he didn’t. jajaja  he was only focused on motorcycles.

When we got  to the river the fun began, my brother and I run away from our parents to water, my dad was in change to get down the stuff and mom finish the cook in the river. One activitie that we carry out were with flat stones: that consisted in launch the flat stones across the river, the aim was carry out a little displacement over the water with the stone. My father was the absolute winner always.

2 or 3 hours later mom, called us and she used to said: you ought to come for lunch, if not the fishes were fat. At the end of the day my brother and I always fell asleep. But they woke us to go home.

MY CHILDHOOD BY EDITH OLARTE

MY CHILDHOOD
When I was a child I used to play with my friends Melissa and Mónica, we played with dolls and Barbies in our houses, and sometimes, hide and seek and tag in the streets when they used to be safe. Now, the children can´t play there because it is really dangerous; There are many cars, bad people, drugs, and so on.
Then, I remember when my mom asked me to help her clean the house, she told me to do more exercise in my free time and I did it, but now I don´t like practice sports, I prefer to do other things like read a book, watch t.v, go to window shopping. Then she asked me to pass all the subjects in school and I tried, I studied so much but one year I fall two subjects in seventh grade, therefore my mom was really angry; She talked with me and I made her a promise: Be the best. As a result when I graduated of high school, I won a reward I was the best bachelor and my mom cried because she felt so proud of me.
Moreover, she always make me visit my grandmother on weekends, it wasn´t a good idea for me so, I used to prefer visit her only twice in a month. I Also remember when I didn´t pay attention to her advices about something that she nagged me all day and my brother closed the door of his bedroom because he didn´t like to listen to her nag; next he used to give me  advices about my behavior.
Finally my mom couldn´t get me to eat any vegetables; She used to make a delicious spinach soup and she said to me: “you can´t play until you finish!”. After more or less one hour I ate it, but later I vomited it. It used to happen when she gave me all kind of vegetables. Although she loved to prepare many salads and I used to eat potatoes chips, a slice of bread, a can of sausages and a glass of milk.

Memory by Diana Carolina Munera

Remarkable Memory

When I was five years old, I lived in my grandparent's house with my mom in Quibdó. I was a very happy girl. I went to kindergarten and I had many friends. My father lived in Medellín but he used to visit us very often.

In June, on vacations I remember that my dad was with me very early in the morning. We were driving in a car in a nearby neighborhood. Then, he took an urgent call. My grandmother called him because my grandfather was very sick. My father and me returned to home and when we arrived I left the car. Immediately, some neighbors carried my grandfather to the car. They made it to the hospital very fast.

I didn´t understand too much, I was still wearing my pajamas. I took a bath and wait however, the wait was short. Bad news came. My grandpa suffered a fatal heart attack, the doctor couldn´t save his life. This news was heartbreaking for the family.

The family were devastated. My mom for example was in Bogotá, She was working there. She called home that morning and my grandma couldn´t tell her, I should have told her.

An uncle lived in Bogotá by that time and My mom and he traveled to Quibdó for entombment. My grandpa died on June 2 and the entombment was on June 3 the same day of mom´s birthday. It was a bad birthday gift.

Now, 17 years after, I remember this terrible day for me and my family because, he was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather. He was a magnificent example of living.

I was just a little girl back then, maybe for many people is hard to remember an anecdote at that age, but it´s was so strong and powerful that I cant´n remember clearly.

Remember is to live again and for me this is a painful memory but I know he was a brave and loving man and that makes me to remember to him.

Alexander Vanegas Childhood I remember:

In my childhood I remember that i was a very naughty and outgoing kid. My parents always scolded me because I used to do a lot of bad things.

When I was five years old I didn´t like toe at vegetables and fruits because it looked very disgusting and the flavor was strange for me.So I tried to throw out them the window but my parents always saw me. That was terrible because they yelled at me and so I cried. Also I remember that I broke a lot of things of glass with my soccer ball and I hid them in my courtyard. My parents always realized.

Now, I am going to talk about a story that happened seven years ago. I was in my uncle´s farm. All the family was there and in the farm were many animals and much fun.Furthemore you can swim in the pool and riding horse or ostrich. So all my cousins decided to walk with me around the farm and we realized that we were very far from my uncle´s farm.Besides it was at night but my older cousin had a flashlight and we started to walk more peacefully towards to the farm and we found many animals like cows, horses , chickens. So we realized that we were very near but a small bull interfered in the middle of the road. That was terrible, because I was wearing a red t- shirt and the bull started to run behind me. So I decided to go to a lake. I didn´t know its depth and the bull didn´t stop to run, but that was the only solution. When the bull and I fell down us into the wáter. I saw but i couldn´t do anything for it.However my cousins helped and saved it. When we came to my uncle´s farm, all the family asked us  where were you? And we told them what happened it.Although our parents yelled at us, also they congratulated us because helped to that animal. From that moment on I learned that animals act on instinct and hardly ever they want to attack people. Nowadays every month my cousins and I go to my uncle´s farm to know how is the health of the bull and we fed it very well.

Childhood memories By Manuela Marin

When I was a child I used to play all the time with my friends. I remember I´d around 15 friends and we played different kinds of street games such as: Escondidijo, bote taro, chucha and seguimiento. Also my friends and I like biking, skating, swimming and climbing. I consider that my childhood was perfect because we have fun all the time.
I remember once upon a time my friends and I were exploring in a kind of forest near to my house. We´re playing in a little river, and we´re recollecting guavas and pomas from the trees, and  my friend Juan Pablo has the excellent idea to start to climb a tree. I and the others friends follow him, when I was climbing the tree my pocket’s jeans was linked from a tree branch and it´s torn in my buttock, then I wanted to go down because I felt embarrassed. I put my feet in a very slim branch and I fell down from the tree and my weight fell in my back it was very painful because I was very high I calculate that I was 8 or 10  meters of high, fortunately nothing serious happen. I just have a couple of scrapes. My friends were scared and obviously they help me to stand up and go to home but I forgot it very quickly and we continued playing.
I always celebrated my birthdays with my friends. It was very good times. we used to crash eggs in the head of the person who has birthday. The number of egg has to correspond to the number of the birthday. It was very fanny and disgusting, once time I was 14 years old and my friends crash me 14 eggs. I had to take around 4 showers because my hair smelled horrible.

I remember another funny story with my friend Isabel, I was 12 years old. We´re in the park. It was late like 9:00 PM we were in the littler house of the park. It hasn´t the table of the middle and isa fell down just in the gap, she was fat so, she wasn´t go out from the gap up her and over her, I can´t help her because it was very fanny. I had a laugh attack. Isa staid caught around half hour until her sister come and help her.

AN IDEAL CHILDHOOD By Carolina Lizarazo Torres

AN IDEAL CHILDHOOD
By Carolina Lizarazo Torres.

In order to talk about my chilhood, it´s important to tell you my family is composed by my Parents Claire and Edilberto (who died many years ago), my brother Jorge, my little sister Claire and of course, me.

I was always a polite and obedient girl, but also I was a very naughty girl sometimes. Therefore I remember perfectly innocent and funny anecdotes of my childhood. For instance: to hide things that I would break, to look for candies that my mom used to keep for our lunchbox for the school, or to bother my sister; For example, once I took her out of her bed and bath her with clothes in the middle of the night. Other times I hid many of her favorite toys just to see her cry. Yes I know sometimes I behaved very badly.

However, I think my biggest mischief which gave a terrible scare to my parents, was to make them believe that I had been hijacked because one day when the school bus took me to my home´s door, I didn´t get in there, instead I went to play to the neighbor´s house without saying anything to my parents who obviously worried a lot, so they called the police and they searched for me throughout the city like a reported case of hijack or disappearance!. Fortunately it was only a fright and a false alarm.

Another funny anecdote occurred at my grandparent´s farm where my brothers and I used to visit them to spend the holydays with them. I remember the farm was fairly big and beautiful and there were all kind of animals like dogs, cats, roosters, cows, bulls, pigs, chickens, hens, sheeps, among others. Back then I used to bother the littler animals such to catch puppies and put them over nests or take the tail of the little cats and throw them to the roofs and also grab chickens strongly.

Finally I want to share with you an entertaining story about a play named “The cousins” who were my sister and I. Among ourselves we used to call us “cousin”, but in the reality we were a couple of beautiful, succesful and glamorous sisters that had an interesting life style travelling, going shopping, to cafes or restaurants, with a great job and of course in a relationship with a famous and handsome guy. Sometimes my brother would participate in the play when we worked, so he was the owner of a powerful company called “Harvard” with his secretary “Margaret Tacher” and he would make important business with our company.

To sum up, undoubtedly I had a remarkable, fantastic, unique and pretty happy childhood. I always had love, bonding, respect, joy and freedom, giving me the possibility to share and enjoy the most pleasant and valuable experiences with my family, memories that are very significant to me and will always be part of my life.

My happiest memory, Martín Monsalve

 Martín Monsalve S.

When I was 10 years old, my happiest memory was when my father took us to the sea for the first time.
My father used to have a farm in Momil, Córdoba. He had cows and some horses.
The farm didn´t have electric energy, so we didn’t have TV and radio.
The funniest experience was to ride the horses and played with the little cows.
But in general was very boring.

The food was the same all time: rice, fried banana and meat. Sometimes my brother and I got out of the farm, and rode 15 minutes to a little store and bought Kola Roman with sweet roll, that was a delicious experience.

At two times we found very dangerous snakes. We also got to see eagles and other kinds of birds.

The trip was worth it because our father took us to the sea. The farm was just outside Coveñas, approximately an hour-long car ride. My father used to drive a Suzuki, model 1982.  He used to drive my brothers and me to the beach once a week. In the beach we could do all sorts of things. We could play with the sand, even built sand castles; we could also play with other kids. Sometimes we even played soccer on the beach. The best thing to do was swimming. My brothers and I used to swim for hours. We had competitions against each other; I would always win.

When we were in Coveñas, my father invited us for pizza.
We loved pizza, especially Hawaiian pizza. I ate about 5 slices.
One time my tummy hurt too much. We also drank a lot of Kola Roman, I used to drink two or three Kola Roman. This soda was only sold in Coveñas, we couldn’t drink it in Medellin, and so we took every chance we had to drink as much as we wanted.

At the afternoon, we drove back to the farm, tired from the swimming. At night we always dreamt about the sea and we couldn’t way to go back. We waited eagerly for the weekend to come so we could be at the beach again.
